  • Repairing: Carry out checks on your timber post structures semi-regularly to look for any damage. If cracks or splits appear, fill in patches with wood filler or epoxy resin. For larger damage, timber posts may require metal brackets for reinforcement.

  • Replacing: If more than one-third of the post is affected by rot or decay, replacement is usually the best option.

Common Questions Answered

Addressing your Concerns

As with all timber products, there are certain problems you may come across or have concerns about. Here are some common concerns as well as their solutions:

  • Colour variation and discolouration between the posts and fencing: As a natural product, our wooden fence posts will not look identical. Any discolouration may come due to sun exposure. This is why occasional treatment, even though they are pressure-treated, is advisable.

  • Keeping my fence posts steady, even and level: If placed in a looser ground surface, fence posts may not be as steady and level. Reinforcement such as concrete or a post holder may be needed. Make sure to double measure your fencing project prior to installation.

  • Mold and rot forming on my timber posts and fencing: The pressure-treated timber in our fence posts are less susceptible to mold and rot than standard timber. It is important to inspect your garden fencing semi-regularly for signs of wear.

  • Warping of a timber post: An even and stable installation will ensure warping, which is a natural occurrence, is kept to a minimum. The pressure treated timber fence posts are also denser so less likely to warp.

Debunking Myths and Misunderstandings

There a several misconceptions associated with timber posts. Let's go through and debunk them:

  • All types of timber are basically the same/do the same thing: Timber of all types share some similarities, but many are better suited for different purposes. Larch for example is easy to use for DIY construction, where as Pine is more lightweight and decorative.

  • Pressure treated timber doesn’t need any maintenance: Whilst pressure treated timber has the added benefit of not needing treatment at the start, maintenance later down the line is essential for its longevity.

  • Timber posts can’t handle heavy loads: Timber as a resource lends itself well to many load-bearing duties, including foundations for garden buildings as well as support posts.

  • Timber posts are unsustainable: This is far from the case, as not only do we source sustainable and traceable timber, but it is designed to last for many years.
