Planning permission

If the cabin is intended as a permanent residence, planning permission is almost always required. The intended use, whether permanent or temporary, significantly impacts the necessity for permission.

However, granny annexes sited in the garden for the exclusive use of a family member are usually exempt from planning permission.

Building regulations

Additionally, the intended use for the building, such as residential use. It's essential to consult with the local planning authority (LPA) to ensure compliance with all local regulations and to understand the specific requirements for your project.

This may include ensuring everything is installed correctly and safely, as well as how you insulate the log cabins. Ensuring your cabin is correctly insulated and ventilated will help ensure the longevity of the residential log cabin as well as reducing heating and energy costs.

All our Cabins are designed for self-assembly, including all the fixings. However with these larger scale buildings we do recommend considering a professional installer, as these plans are much more complex than our standard cabins. DELIVERY OF YOUR RESIDENTIAL LOG CABIN

Our residential log cabins come in prepalletise kits and will arrive via an articulated vehicle with a demountable, self powered forklift to move the packages. Delivery will be curbside which usually means a driveway or a side path to your garden, you don’t have to be there for delivery. Please contact us if there are any limitations regarding size of your unloading area and access.

Once your delivery has been made, please check your cabin packages to ensure all items have arrived securely and without damage. Please note that most of our Residential Log Cabins will be supplied in multiple packages.

LOG CABIN BASES

One of the most important parts of the build installation is a log cabin base. To ensure our Residential Log Cabins have the long life span as intended, a flat and level base is required for any building.A base can be pretty much made out of anything: concrete, timber, paving stones. But, any base provided for any log cabin has to follow this criteria:

  • Consideration should be given to the majority of the weight being placed on the perimeter of the cabin.

  • Consideration should be given to the weight of the cabin, our Residential Log Cabins are between 58mm and 70mm thick, meaning a much heavier cabin.

  • It should be 100% level in every direction, this part is the most important.

  • The base should cover to just over the footprint size of the cabin.

INSULATING YOUR RESIDENTIAL LOG CABIN

For all year round use, insulating your cabin is essential for enjoying residential use. Insulation will help your cabin stay warmer in the winter, and cooler during the summer heatwaves. Essential for keeping heating and electric costs lower in your cabin.While we don’t sell pre-insulated cabins, we do sell Cabin Insulation Packs. These kits will give you all the supplies needed for insulating both your cabin's floor and roof.

PVC DOORS AND WINDOWS FOR RESIDENTIAL LOG CABINS.

Alongside the superior log thickness and insulation pair, there is also the option of choosing PVC windows and doors for your Residential Log Cabin. PVC Windows and Doors are a hardwearing and virtually maintenance free alternative to standard glass windows and doors.Alongside the easy maintenance, PVC doors and windows are constructed using two panels of glass with a vacuum seal. Reducing the amount of heat that can pass through the gap and increasing its thermal efficiency. These should be taken into consideration when planning your ultimate Residential Log Cabin.
