Common questions answered for Tuin's Fence Posts

Addressing your Concerns

As with all timber products, there are certain problems you may come across or have concerns about. Here are some common concerns as well as their solutions:

  • Colour variation and discolouration between the posts and fencing: As a natural product, our wooden fence posts will not look identical. Any discolouration may come due to sun exposure. This is why occasional treatment, even though they are pressure-treated, is advisable.

  • Keeping my fence posts steady, even and level: If placed in a looser ground surface, fence posts may not be as steady and level. Reinforcement such as concrete or a post holder may be needed. Make sure to double measure your fencing project prior to installation.

  • Mold and rot forming on my fence posts and fencing: The pressure-treated timber in our fence posts are less susceptible to mold and rot than standard timber. It is important to inspect your fence semi-regularly for signs of wear.

  • Warping of a fence post: An even and stable installation will ensure warping, which is a natural occurrence, is kept to a minimum. The pressure treated timber fence posts are also denser so less likely to warp.

  • My fence posts not lasting as long as the fence: A common concern, especially if your fence post and panels are from separate suppliers. If they are made from different materials, ensure both their maintenance needs are met to optimise longevity.

Debunking Myths and Misunderstandings

There a several misconceptions associated with fence posts. Let's go through and debunk them:

  • Fence posts will rot fast in the ground: Our wooden fence posts are pressure-treated from the start, giving them better defence again the ground elements when installed.

  • Concrete is always needed for fence posts: A common myth as concrete is only required for reinforcement if the ground is loose and unstable, like loose soil or a sandier area. Otherwise, our fence posts are sturdy enough as they are.

  • A wood fence post is structurally unstable: This is far from the truth, our wooden fence posts have good durability, and by being pressure treated, they are exceptionally stable, ideal for fencing.

  • Don’t need treatment/drainage of any kind: Even though our posts are pressure-treated, to get the best lifespan, occasional treatment is still required. We also highly recommend appropriate drainage space when constructing your fencing, as a lack of drainage may deteriorate the fence structurally over time.
